Why is my education at METU important?

I received my bachelors degree in Foreign Language Education from Middle East Technical University in January 2024. Throughout my time there, I developed a wide range of skills, including research, translation, teaching, and testing. METU shaped me into a teacher who values communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity in the classroom. I learned the importance of addressing critical issues and was shown how essential it is to design my lessons within that framework. METU didn't just teach me how to teach English, but also how to make a meaningful impact on students' lives. True to its motto "We can change the world", METU instilled in me the belief that I can make a meaningful difference in the world. As a result, I approach teaching with dedication and passion, knowing it plays a vital role in shaping the future of humanity.

from creating units on gender inequality...

to environmental awareness lessons.

METU GVO Middle School

During my compulsory internship here, I was teaching 11 year-old students using my own materials and lesson plans. You can find some examples of my work on this page.

I believe creating interesting stories with familiar faces to keep students engaged in a lesson is very important. Here, you can see the "Stolen Necklace" story that I created specifically to teach past tenses.

Students had a chance to act like detectives and express themselves on who they think the thief is. They examined each suspect's statement written in past tenses.

It is very important for me to grab students' attention when starting a lesson. I always make sure to keep it exciting and familiar! They sure loved seeing a story about their favourite YouTuber on the board.

I believe structuring lessons around a cohesive storyline is vital, including the exercises students do. With young learners, it is our responsibility as teachers to make learning fun!

Ankara Atatürk High School

During my compulsory internship here, I was teaching 14 year-old students using my own materials and lesson plans. You can find some examples of my work on this page.

Knowing your students is one of the fundamental rules in a classroom. As a teacher, I always do my best to get to know my students and their interests so that I can give them a reason to be excited to come to school every day. The students loved the Korean Pop band called BTS and of course, I knew that even as an intern at the school.

The students probably had never thought they would take over their favourite internet celebrity's TikTok account and try to be creative and healthy at the same time after learning vocabulary items related to healthy food.

KONTAKT Centrum Języków Obcych - Poznan/Poland

During my voluntary ERASMUS+ internship here, I was teaching adults. I gained many different experiences in addition to teaching English.

from cultural events, Turkish 101 classes, and presentations for Polish high school students...

to making visits to a dental hospital to teach English, preparing special materials for them and role playing with the whole staff!

Online Teaching

I started teaching on Preply.com during my first year at the university in order to gain teaching experience and to provide for myself. I ended up loving it!

Teaching Projects

Here you can find the details of the English Teaching Projects that I participated during my education.

Let’s Learn Together Academic Support ProgramI tutored English preparatory school students at METU. The interesting part of this experience was that we did not have a classroom setting! We took advantage of any grassy area in our huge campus!

Peer to Peer (P2P) ProjectBefore I started my Bachelor’s Degree, I studied at the English Preparatory School at METU. As an advanced level English learner who came to METU to study Foreign Language Education, this project was an amazing starting point for my teaching journey! There, I led speaking classes for my beginner level English learner peers.
